Kodiak Tanner (Bairdi) Crab

Tanner crab or Chionoecetes bairdi is a close relative of opilio or snow crab. Tanner crabs are sought for their rich, sweet flavor and tender texture, which makes them ideal for many versatile recipes.

  • Harvested from the Eastside and Southeast Districts off the coast of Kodiak Island by Captain Charlie Peterson of the F/V Patricia Sue, along with other small boat Kodiak fishermen 
  • Pre-cooked, ready to eat chilled or heated
  • Average weight is 1 to 3 pounds per cluster
  • Each box of frozen, pre-cooked clusters is 17#

Harvesting Method & Season

The Kodiak Tanner Crab fishery opens at noon on January 15th, 2020. Fishermen may fish up to 20 pots per vessel according to Alaska Department of Fish & Game regulations. 

Preparation Tips:

Extremely versatile for use in a variety of different recipes. Pre-cooked, so it is ready to eat. To warm, just steam, sauté, broil, grill or roast for 4 minutes to heat through. Serve with drawn butter or dipping sauces.

Available for pick up Thursday, February 13th from 12pm - 6pm at the Catch 49 Distribution Center at 636 E. 15th Avenue, Anchorage, Alaska.
