description

Coonstripe shrimp are the second-largest shrimp in Alaskan waters, typically ranging between 4 and 6 inches in total length, but up to 7 ½ inches. The distinctive darker striped markings on their abdomens help to identify them from other similar-sized shrimp such as the spot shrimp (also called spot prawns), that have several larger and distinctive white spots, or the side stripe shrimp which have white-colored bands down the length of its sides. Coonstripe shrimp are harvested using small pots which is one of the most marine-friendly forms of fishing today.
